Swim Lessons

Confidence starts with a splash.

From getting comfortable in the water to refining a racing stroke, Klahaya swim lessons help swimmers build skills and enjoy every step of their progress.

A level for every next step

Our group swim lessons progress from basic water skills through stroke technique, diving, and turns. Swimmers move to the next level after completing the skills in their current class. Frog, our swim team stroke class, is available only to swim team members.

Group lessons run Monday through Thursday in two-week sessions. Classes in the group timetable are 25 minutes long.

Explore the swim levels

These descriptions explain the skills taught in each class. If you are unsure where to begin, ask the lesson staff for help choosing a level.

Starfish · Level 1

Start with getting comfortable in the pool: entering and exiting independently, blowing bubbles, opening eyes underwater, and putting the head beneath the surface. Swimmers practice leaving the wall, supported back floats, beginning front floats, kicking at the wall and with a kickboard, pushing off, and jumping in.

Guppy · Level 2

Build early independent swimming skills with streamlined push-offs, face-in-the-water breathing, and front floats that turn into back floats. Swimmers practice crawl-stroke movements at the wall, swim 5–10 yards with their face in the water, kick on their back with a board, and push off on their back while keeping water out of their nose.

Sea Otter · Level 3

Connect swimming and breathing with side-breathing practice over 10 yards. Swimmers learn sitting and kneeling dives, retrieve objects in shallow water, practice jumping in and returning to the wall with assistance, and begin elementary backstroke.

Dolphin · Level 4

Develop all four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Lessons introduce wall and starting-block dives and build coordination between kicking, arm movements, breathing, and gliding. Backstroke work includes recovery and hand entry; freestyle work develops side breathing.

Shark · Level 5

Refine stroke technique, starts, and turns. Swimmers practice streamlined push-offs, freestyle flip turns, breaststroke and butterfly turns, and wall and block dives. Stroke work emphasizes butterfly rhythm and breathing, a steady head and follow-through in backstroke, breaststroke arm mechanics, and freestyle rotation and alternate breathing.

Frog · Swim Team Stroke Class

For swim team members only. Focused instruction develops stroke technique, racing starts, and flip turns to support swimmers’ work with the team.
